When AI Work Hits Your Spend Limit, It Now Waits for You

Until now, hitting your AI spend limit mid-extraction was a hard stop — the AI work failed, files went unsummarised, and the only way back was to manually re-run every affected folio. This release replaces the stop with a pause: AI tasks that hit your spend limit are marked Suspended and held in place. One click from the Usage page (or the folio itself) and they resume from exactly where they paused.

What's New

A "Retry suspended AI" banner on your Usage page

The next time you visit Account Details → Usage while any AI work is paused, a yellow banner sits above the meter cards: how many tasks are paused, plus a Retry suspended AI button. Raise your spend limit (or wait for your next cycle to roll over), click the button, and every paused task across your account requeues at once.

Retry one folio at a time

If you'd rather restart paused work on a single folio without releasing everything company-wide, each folio's detail page now carries the same banner — labelled Retry AI Work — and acts only on that folio's paused events. Useful when you want to verify one folio's behaviour before turning everything back on.

Document synopsis joins the safety net

Before this release, hitting your spend limit mid-synopsis marked the file as Failed — and the only recovery was to delete the placeholder and regenerate manually. Document synopsis now uses the same pause-and-resume mechanism as field extraction: paused synopses show a yellow Suspended badge on the folio's file list, with a friendly explanation on the file viewer. Click retry, and the synopsis picks up from where it stopped.

Closed folios stay closed

The retry flow is deliberately careful about which folios it touches. Folios that have already been accepted, expired, closed, or moved to payment are skipped — they're done, and re-running paused AI on them would only burn through your newly-raised limit on output you can't act on. Retry only re-runs paused work on folios that are still live.

A clearer message when you click too soon

If you click Retry AI Work on a folio while you're still over your spend limit, you'll see a direct message — "Your usage limit has been hit. Raise it on the Usage page, then retry." — instead of the click appearing to succeed only for the same tasks to immediately re-pause. Faster to diagnose, less mysterious.

How to Use It

  1. If extraction or synopsis has been pausing, open Account Details → Usage.
  2. Raise the Overage Spend Limit (or wait for your next billing cycle if you'd rather not increase the cap).
  3. Click Retry suspended AI in the yellow banner — paused work resumes immediately.
  4. To restart only one folio's paused work, open that folio and click Retry AI Work in the banner at the top.
💡 Worth knowing

Paused AI work never expires on its own — it stays paused indefinitely until you retry. So if you'd prefer to leave a paused task alone because the folio is no longer needed, you can simply close the folio and the retry buttons will skip it automatically.
