Bring Your Own AI Keys: Your Provider, Your Bill

FolioReady's AI features — folio insights, document synopsis, field extraction — have always run on our shared provider account, with the cost bundled into your plan. If you'd rather route those calls through your own Anthropic or OpenAI account, you can now paste in your own key and take it from there. Your calls, your billing relationship, your choice of model.

What's New

A new Company → Credentials area

Company settings now includes a Credentials area where all your AI provider keys live. Add one, edit it, or remove it — the list shows each credential's provider, model, and scope at a glance.

Paste in your Anthropic or OpenAI key

Pick a provider, optionally pick a specific model, paste your key, and save. From that moment on, AI calls from your account run through your provider — billing, rate limits, and model availability all governed by your own account. OpenAI joins Anthropic as a directly supported provider.

Different keys for different AI features

Each credential can be either your company default or scoped to a single AI action — insights, synopsis, extraction, or onboarding. A common setup: one default key for everything, plus a second credential scoped to insights that points at a stronger model. You can run any mix you like, and FolioReady picks the right credential for each call automatically.

Keys stay encrypted

Your API key is encrypted the moment you save it. It's never displayed back to you, never written to logs, and only read at the moment FolioReady makes the AI call on your behalf. Rotating a key is just a matter of editing the credential and pasting the new one.

Switch back any time

Remove a credential and FolioReady resumes using the shared platform provider with no change to your data or your workflow. AI-powered features keep working exactly as they did — only the invoice changes.

How to Use It

  1. Go to Company → Credentials
  2. Click New credential
  3. Pick a provider (Anthropic or OpenAI) and paste your API key
  4. Leave the scope blank to use this as your default, or pick a specific action
  5. Save — your next AI call automatically uses the new key

What's Improved

A consistent place for AI configuration

Model selection, action scope, and API keys now all live under the same Credentials area. If you want to change the model an AI feature uses, it's the same place whether you're on our shared account or your own.

More model choices

Anthropic and OpenAI both support a range of models at different price and performance points. With BYO keys, you can pick the exact model you want for each AI action — not just the ones we've pre-configured on the shared account.
