Synopses, Ready Before You Open the File

Document Synopsis used to be one click away — open a file, hit Generate synopsis, wait a few seconds, then read. That click is gone. Every uploaded file now starts generating its synopsis the moment it finishes uploading, so by the time you open the file, the summary is usually already there. Triage moves from "open, click, wait, read" to "open, read."

What's New

Synopses run automatically on upload

The instant a file finishes uploading — through the client portal or via email forwarding — a synopsis is queued in the background. The Synopsis tab fills in on its own, no Generate button needed. You'll still see the Generating… badge briefly on the file index while the AI works, then the Synopsis badge turns green and the summary is ready to read.

The template's AI prompt steers the summary

If the template the file came in on has an AI extraction prompt configured, that prompt is used as the synopsis focus. So a template designed to extract retirement-account balances produces synopses that already speak to balances; a KYC template produces synopses already focused on identity verification. You're not getting generic summaries — you're getting summaries shaped by what the template was built to capture.

If a template has no extraction prompt, the synopsis is a general overview, the same as before.

Regenerate is prefilled, not blank

When you do want to regenerate a synopsis with a different focus, the prompt textarea on the file show page now opens prefilled with the template's AI extraction prompt — instead of empty. Edit it, clear it, or rewrite it entirely; the new synopsis is shaped by whatever you submit.

Every synopsis leads with a one-sentence summary

The AI prompt itself was tightened: every synopsis now begins with a ## Summary heading and a single sentence identifying what the document is. So even the longest summary tells you in the first line whether you're looking at a passport, a payslip, or a property deed — useful when scanning a stack of files.

How to Use It

Nothing to enable — auto-synopsis is on for every account. To get the most out of it:

  1. Open any template you use regularly and confirm its AI extraction prompt is set under AI settings. The prompt that drives extraction also drives synopsis focus.
  2. Upload a file (portal or email ingest) and watch the file index — the badge cycles from grey to green within a few seconds.
  3. Open the file; the Synopsis tab is already populated.
  4. Hit Regenerate if you want a different angle — the textarea is prefilled with the template prompt, ready to edit.
💡 Worth knowing

Auto-generation only runs on new uploads. Files that were already in your folios before this release stay as they were — open them and click Generate synopsis to fill them in. Or wait for an Insights conversation, which still fans out and synopsises any missing files on the spot.
