Document Synopsis: Read Less, Decide Faster
A folio with five attachments used to mean five files to open before you could decide what mattered. Document Synopsis turns every uploaded file into a one-paragraph summary you can scan in seconds — manager-only, on-demand, and shaped by an optional focus prompt. Triage at a glance, dive into the files that need attention, skip the ones that don't.
What's New
One-paragraph summaries on every uploaded file
Open any uploaded file from the Uploaded Files tab and you'll see two tabs at the top: File for the document preview, Synopsis for the AI summary. Click Generate synopsis and a few seconds later the summary appears.
Optional focus prompt — ask the document a question
The Generate flow includes a textarea above the button. Leave it blank for a general overview, or type what you're looking for: "focus on dates and amounts", "flag anything unusual", "is there a co-signer mentioned?". The summary is shaped by your prompt, and you can regenerate with a different focus as many times as you like.
Status badge on the file index
The Folio Details page now shows a status badge next to each filename so you can see at a glance which files have summaries ready:
| Badge | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Synopsis (green) | A summary is ready to read |
| Generating… (grey) | The AI is working on it now |
| Synopsis failed (red) | Generation didn't complete — try again |
| (no badge) | No synopsis has been generated yet |
Clear and start fresh
The Clear button (with confirmation) removes the synopsis text and resets the file to the idle state. The file itself stays — only the summary is removed. Useful when a synopsis is no longer accurate, or when you want to regenerate from scratch with a different focus.
Reused by Folio Insights
When you start an Insights conversation on a folio, the AI uses each file's synopsis as context. If you've already generated a synopsis from the file show page, Insights uses it directly — no waiting for the background pass on the first question. Work done once, used twice.
How to Use It
- Open a folio with uploaded files
- Click the Uploaded Files tab
- Pick a file from the dropdowns
- Click the Synopsis tab on the right
- (Optional) Type a focus prompt
- Click Generate synopsis
- Watch for the badge to turn green on the Folio Details page
- Regenerate with a different focus, or Clear when you're done
What's Improved
Faster Insights conversations
Starting an Insights conversation on a folio where synopses have already been generated is noticeably quicker — the AI reuses the summary you already have instead of re-reading each file. Work done once, used twice.
Per-file control
Each synopsis is tied to its own file, so you can regenerate, clear, or retry one file without affecting the others. Two people regenerating the same file at the same time won't step on each other either.
What's Fixed
"Reminder At" banner no longer appears empty
The folio detail page used to show the Reminder At banner with a blank date for folios that had no reminder scheduled. The banner is now hidden when there's nothing to show.
